LAWN AUXILIARY OF THE CAMPBELLTOWN VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY ESTABLISHED

With the help of public minded citizens in the area of Lawn and Colebrook, South Londonderry Township, an arm of the Fire Company was formed.  Called the “Lawn Auxiliary of the Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company, it was established in the summer of 1942.  In June of that year, the old siren from the Fire Company was loaned to this new group.  By October 5, 1942, the siren was put into service.
On April 5, 1943, Campbelltown Fire Chief, Elvin O. Miller appointed the following officers to assist him with the tasks at Lawn: Fire Chief, Mr. Percy Eckert; 1st Asst., David B. Myers; 2nd Asst., Harry Kline; 3rd Asst., William Ricker.  Truck driver, Paul Lehman; 1st Asst., Glen Brubaker; 2nd Asst., Dana Flory; and 3rd Asst., Chester Williamson.
The Lawn Auxiliary continued to be supported by the Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company for a few years after its establishment.  A vote of 14 to 2 was taken in March 1945 against the group leaving the auspices of the Campbelltown group.  But eventually by the late 1940’s, the Lawn Fire Company received its separate charter.  Today it continues to serve the local communities of Colebrook and Lawn in South Londonderry Township.
