At about 13:30 Station 2 was alerted to an accident with roll over and possible entrapment. Rescue 2 with 6 (Chief Sell) arrived to find a car on it's side, no one in the car. Crews did basic vehicle ops. Engine 2 with 4 (FF Valentin) also responded along with Special Unit 2 (Fire Police Darkes) Crews were in service a little over 1 hour.
Now that Pump Ops 1 is complete, the 2 crew went back to training in vehicle extrication. Crews worked on identifying the vehicle, locating batteries, air bags, and electronic control modules. Then we removed the doors with a 2 door swing away on the left side and Noah's ark on the right side. We removed all glass and roof, and lifted the dash with the spreaders and pushed the dash with the ram. Great job by the 2 crew.
Palmyra Area School District schools will open Monday August 28th. Please be aware of school buses and children.

Crews returned and went home for much needed rest till 1:30 this morning when Rescue 2 was called for a fatal accident.
Many THANKS to the community for their acts of kindness. The farmer provided the apparatus with fuel and manpower with food. A resident brought McD's breakfast sandwiches. Country View provided food. Dominos in Northside Commons provided supper, 20 pizzas, brownies, and breadsticks. A second many THANKS to our transfer companies and mutual aid companies for their assistance with this very unusual day, without your help it would not have been possible. The Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company is very grateful to the community for their support. If anyone is interested in becoming part of the 2 Crew, stop by the station and we can answer any questions you may have, because really, if your neighbors house was on fire wouldn't you want to do more than watch? Eight members started taking their Pump 1 class this evening. The rest of the crew updated our rope rescue equipment.
Rescue 2 with 5 Safety Ed was dispatched to an accident with confinement. Crews cut the windshield to allow the driver to self extricate. Training this evening was water rescue. Crews practiced throwing rope bags and back boarding a person in 4, 6, and 12 feet of water. Many THANKS to the Palmyra Community Pool for allowing us to use their facility to train. Valuable hands on training. |
